This has been bugging me for a while.
In a special issue, it talks about the history of Cannon's father and grandfather.
Now, to understand why I'm confused, it said (somewhere) that the lifespan of a water person (please, somebody give them a species name!) is greater then that of a normal human.
In this issue, Cannon's father talks about how he was involved in defeating a Nazi plan to develop nuclear technology (he's telling the story to Cannon).
Then we flash forward to the current day. After finishing his story, Cannon's father dies.
There is not an exact date given for this event, but I'm assuming it's somewhere between 1945 and 1980. That's a difference of around 25 years. Given that the lifespan of a water person is long, how could Cannon's father grow old and die in the space of 25 years? He shouldn't have even gained a few years (relatively speaking) of age during that time.

You're refering to Fathom 1/2
In the very beginning of the book, the very first text box it says the year was 1944. Assuming the year at the end is the same as when the book was published, that'd be 2001. (Though they never gave a date for Vallon's death)
That's 57 years (if the date at the end is 2001) from the first image of Cannon's father to the old version at the end. He looks like he's in his mid 30's or so in the beginning. That would make him somewhere around 87-90 years old.
He wasn't ill or anything, he just said it was his time, he had lived a complete life. Maybe he was just ready to go, so maybe he went early?
The average life span for men like 70 something isn't it? So technically he outlived a normal human, even though he wasn't like super old.
Just my thoughts, not sure how much of it is accurate.

Maybe Vallon was 137 at the time of the 1/2 story.
And we haven't yet hit current time yet in Fathom world

You know you could just tell us. Unless you don't know.
Does it actually give the year in Volume 2?

I was just about to say that myself. He might've looked 30-ish in 44, but he was maybe actually really 60ish or more. Or maybe Vallon's "rebirth" (coming out of the water glowing red (I don't have the issue at hand right now)) drained extra energy from him.
It could also not have occurred yet - like how Soulfire is "now", but New World Order is still told (well, the #0 issue) before it's occurred.
The age of the Blue is a tricky thing. Aspen was 11, when found, but she'd been missing for 10 years, making her really 21. In '98 she was mid-twenties, it's now 10 years later, making her mid-thirties, but with the missing 10 years she's actually mid-forties. Best to do is just let it pass and not pay too much attention to it - it's a comic book and it will never be up to date with our world/time. It's contained within its own universe. I mean, just look at Superman. What's he? 25? 35? 105?

Well, I always imagined that when the water people reach 18 years or so old, their growth rate slows down, which is what allows them to live so long.
So, technically, Aspen's still 18, it would probably take her several decades to age so that it's noticeable.
I'm assuming this means Kiani's still a child or a young teenager by their standards, since she's younger then Aspen.
Cannon is an example of this, since he's lived a long time and only appears slightly older then he was when he first confronted Killian.
