Jeremy, congrats on your first con they are definately one-of-a-kind experiences & very memorable. The one thing i learned over going to all my cons is don't be shy, and don't feel awkward. Everyone at aspen is so sweet and they don't mind at all. It took me four years to overcome my fear & shyness; and they're still all cool with me even though i've gone absolutely nuts/insane some years. Congrats on your sketch ;) You should post and show it when you get the chance.
And welcome to the boards ;)

Dude those suitcases with wheels is a lifesaver. My back was praising me at the end of the day. But it was still at good 70 pounds and my legs were cursing their existence by the end of the day. And I actually don't drink or eat anything during cons, going ironman till the day ends. I soak in every minute of cons, trying to fill up my sketchbook. It's a pretty spiffy sketchbook. If anyone wants to take a look at some of the goodies, let me know. Turner sketches, Alex Ross, Jim Lee, John Cassaday, are just a few of the many artists to grace my book. Can't wait for SDCC this year. I really want a John Romita sketch.

Things to bring:
-Money (and lots of it!)
If it's your first, be prepared. There are more things here that you'll want then you can imagine.
-Make a list of all the comics and stuff you want. Be prepared so that way you sure to get what it is that you need for your collection.
-Sketchbook (for all those famous people to give you autographs and sketches)
-Sharpies (So you can ask anyone, anytime if you feel like being annoying) but if John Cassaday says "Whoa! I don't have one. Let's go look for one," pretend like you never had one.)
-Snack (food there is expensive)
-Poster Tube
-Comfortable Shoes (a lot of walking)
-Backpack (For all your goodies)
-A Camera (Sometimes people are in attendance that you may not have been expecting so don't miss the chance to take pictures with them)
-A Watch (to keep track of time and make sure you get to panels and signings on time)
-Deoderant (seriously!)

Good concise list above here.
For me:
Add a friend/girlfriend/partner in crime.
A luggage cart for a short box (or two) of comics. [Optional]
Spare battery/memory stick for camera.
Water bottles.
Energy to burn.
Patience.

here are a few tips.. i dont know if they were said already but, they are a good reminder..
1- plan your days! you dont want to miss your panels or signings.
2- save money for the last day! alot of booths marks stuff down on the last day because, they just dont want to haul it back.
3- eat breakfast! you will need it! or do what i do and bring a pack of pop tarts with you incase you are sitting in line hungry

I can't eat breakfast. If you do, you're just gonna get really hungry later cuz your stomach expands. I just don't eat till the end of the day.

a back pack is a great asset. Pop tarts and gateraide.
You cannot forget back boards. Lots of comics do not come with them...and if you want to get some stuff signed. Boards are great for protection
I would suggest bringing a mechanical pencil, eraser, and some pens/markers. Most artists bring their own stuff, but sometimes I have my preference and want a sketch on pencil, not pen or marker. I like looking at thee process and erase marks.
Want a sketch, get there earliy and hang out at the booths because artists will come by and do them. The earlier you are, the more likely artists will spend more time on the sketches. Detail baby.
