I've just spent the last twenty minutes trying to put together a list putting the Fathom series in its correct order. More difficult than I anticipated. Anyhow, this is what I ended up with... see what you think.
My preferred order of reading:

Some things to note are that I couldn't really be bothered with checking the actual issues, so this is mostly from memory. Also, the chronological list starts with a lot of the Beginnings/Prelude and Killian's Tide issues - I've attempted to put them in some kind of order based on my own rough estimates as to the age of Killian, Cannon and Aspen.
EDITED:: Realised the poor grammar of that last sentence... not much better, but hey, I'm tired.

Although, I think chronologically, Killian's Tide comes before the Fathom Preview.

What're you talking about? Killian's Tide IS before them all (save for #1/2 which takes place during WWII (the story told in it)) in the chronological order.
I would agree with the fact that reading Killian's Tide after Vol. 1 #1-9 (yea, I'd put it in right after the end of #9 because #10-14 don't have Killian in them) because those issues introduce Killian, whereas Killian's Tide is fleshing out his character.

You're welcome - glad to have helped. Feel free to use it as is or edit away if there're things you don't particularly agree with.
Simply FYI: my main motivation was that when reading Fathom Vol. 2 and Cannon Hawke as back issues, it was quite difficult to figure which order they should go in. Thus I started with them and more or less worked backwards. Positions in my preferred list are probably largely up for debate (i.e. where to read Fathom/Cannon Beginnings/Prelude/#0, etc.), but there you go.
