Here's my little "people I ran into" list (and in some cases even got sketches).
Let's start with the ever-so-nice Fransisco Herrara.
The sketch he drew me.
(It's a new character from the Soulfire series he's drawing. I don't know if I'm at liberty to reveal the name of the character or not, so I won't (actually, the reason I won't is because I want to annoy you guys/get you excited - yup, I'm that evil).)
Johnny the Homicidal Maniac! (How I got away in one piece is still beyond me.)
Christian Bale, step aside, it's Batman - the 60ies version! What's possibly better than that?
Michael Turner appeared three days (two to sign) inspite of his surgery only weeks before. He was in pain, but managed to keep a good face throughout the whole time he was there. He's such an inspiration.
Here's another reason why Michael's loved to no end by all of his fans - even though he was in pain and totally beat he still took the time to do this sketch for me inside the leather bound Fathom Hard Cover. Thanks a lot, Michael. Get well soon. You deserve it.
The ever-sweet Beth Sotelo.
I kept insisting on her to draw me something in my sketchbook, but she didn't know what to do, so I suggested Murdoc from Gorillaz, so she did.
Prior to this con I'd maybe "talked" to Mike Choi twice on boards, but after San Diego, I'm sure going to hunt him down the next time around and chat with him some more. A really, really cool guy.
I don't think Mike knew there was a line to him, at least it didn't seem like that. He didn't sketch - he drew - for each and every single person in line. Such dedication can only be aplauded. Anyway - I give you; Wolvie!
I went up to Frank Cho and asked him if he did commissions, but alas, no such luck - far too busy (who can blame him) he's still a helluva nice guy though...
... especially since after I'd asked him about a commission and he'd said no he cast a look at my badge and saw that I came from Sweden. He asked me if I'd been at a con before, to which I replied "no - it's actually even my first time in America", to which he then grabbed one of the sketchbooks he was selling and gave it to me and said "welcome to America, then" and then proceeded to draw me this sketch (even though the sign next to him clearly stated "no sketches"). I was/am a really happy camper.
It wasn't easy, but Friday I finally found Waldo!
And I ran into V as well...
I don't know if Fate had any play in this (inside joke for all of those who've read the book), but an hour or so later I saw David Lloyd himself (artist of V for Vendetta) in the DC booth. We had a quick chat before some person in the back of the line (which had been cut several minutes earlier (heck I didn't even make it into the line before the cut but managed to meet Mr. Lloyd anyway - even though his signing time was up by 30 minutes)) that had formed behind me told me, in a rather annoyed way, that other people wanted to see Mr. Lloyd too.
And he was kind enough to do me this sketch. It's even better up front and in person.
Christina Strain was her ever-lovable self.
And sketched me this...
... which she apparently wasn't very happy with, so she did another one... which I think she liked a bit more.
I stopped by David Mack's booth and had a chat with him. I'm very surprised there wasn't more of a line there for him, but I'm glad there wasn't as it allowed me to have that little chat with him.
I bought two prints and the first Kabuki trade (happy now, DD?) and David threw in some freebies and this sketch.
San Diego also presented the first opportuntiy ever for me to meet my fellow co-mod of the Hang Out, Cross - beware everyone; we're watching you.
She's not as evil as she looks though - she actually was kind enough to sketch for me.
Frank kept a watchful eye over the Michael Turner originals, but I managed to snag him away for a quick photo...
... and a sketch! "HULK (not) SMASH!"
Vince looked confused most of the time. I don't know if it was because he had too much to do or too little, but regardless - I kidnapped him for a minute or two for a little photo session.
... and demanded I got a sketch from him. He thinks I regret it, but I don't (seems like Grace does though).
Roz... um... Roz was... Roz. Let's just leave it at that.
But he draws a mean Batman.
Micah was a trooper, who along with Koi, sat and sketched the whole con through. Sketch after sketch after sketch after sketch. Ugh, my hand is getting tired of me just thinking about it.
I'm not feeling too bad about having him draw me a sketch though, seeing as mine was the first one of the con and he hadn't worn himself out at all. I guess that's some kind of consolation, right?
Yes, like I said - Micah AND Koi were real troopers. Koi probably more so than Micah. I saw Micah get up and about inside the booth a few times, Koi however, was rooted to his chair the whole con through.
Alas, no sketch from Koi, but seeing as how busy he was I would've felt terrible having bugged him more (than I did) about one. He was already going out of his way for the other people. But next time, Koi. Next time I'll get to you first.
And... Finally in the cavalcade of "me and [insert various person]" there's the man, the myth, the legend himself - Mr. Peter Steigerwald. Same as with Koi, no sketch here either, but I got something 100 times better - I finally got a HUG!
Here are the rest of the sketches I got (but, no photos).
Don Ho's Warpath.
Marcus To's Nightcrawler.
JT Krul's... um... script...?
Francis Manapul's Hellboy.
Jason Gorder's eye.
Talent Caldwell's Gambit.

Excellent booty you've amassed, Simon (and the sketches are nice too...just kidding).
I'm envious at the David Mack pic/sketch. I hope to meet him soon.

Nor does Barak, Aliby, TheTrueAspen, Morgaine, Hippo_Master, Gunner, Nemo, Mystique or Rhian, so what's your point?
(You don't think I'm giving away all the good stuff within a week, do you?)
Told you, K. Heh.
Thanks everyone.

Cool sketches and pics there Simon. Though I'm seriously wondering about what you said about Turner... more surgery?!?!?!
I hope he's doing better.
