Aspen Comics Premieres New Series Shrugged at Wizard World Philadelphia
05-25-06 Aspen MLT, Inc. is proud to announce the world premiere of its newest property Shrugged at Wizard World Philadelphia 2006 with the release of Shrugged #1. Featuring an all-new original concept from creators Michael Turner and Frank Mastromauro, Shrugged is unlike any title the company has previously released. Joining the critically acclaimed properties Soulfire and Fathom, Shrugged is a psychological adventure tale balancing the inner struggles of the human conscience with the challenging- and often times hilarious- battle of surviving high school-adolescence. Aspen will be releasing their exclusive Wizard World Philadelphia covers on June 2nd at the convention, with the regular edition of Shrugged #1 set for release in stores the following Wednesday, June 7th. "We're ecstatic about premiering our newest property since Aspen was first formed. Soulfire and Fathom have been hugely successful for us and we fully anticipate the same for Shrugged because of the work we've put into every facet of the series." said creator Michael Turner. Aspen's latest property Shrugged is written by creators Michael Turner and Frank Mastromauro and features the artwork of Micah Gunnell, Jason Gorder, and colors by Beth Sotelo. Micah Gunnell first displayed his unique style of art in the critically acclaimed mini-series Soulfire: Dying of the Light in 2005. The team of Gunnell and Sotelo provide a distinctive look for Shrugged to complement the out-of-the-box theme of the series. Shrugged centers on a teenage boy named Theo, and the ongoing struggle of his inner conscience. Enter Ange and Dev, the opposing sides to Theo's veritable decision-making process. However, Ange and Dev come to discover there is more they are capable of than simply deciding Theo's fate-perhaps the fate of mankind altogether. Creator Frank Mastromauro comments on the theme of the series, "Shrugged is an adventure with psychological overtones, but there are some very identifiable themes in the book such as friendship, love, and adolescence. We wanted the reader to identify with these elements of the story." The launch of Shrugged begins with Shrugged #1, but the lead-in issues to the series are in stores now.
