Aspen Comics May '04 Wrap-up

What a busy month May has been for Aspen. In the past several weeks, we have attended two conventions (Pittsburgh and Wizard World Philadelphia), released two all-new Aspen comic books (Cannon Beginnings and Soulfire #0), plus all of Aspen's current DC projects, Superman Batman #10, Superman Batman #8 3rd printing, Superman #205 cover, and Flash #210 (our favorite Flash cover).

A very special thanks to everyone who stopped by the Aspen booth and said hi to us at Pittsburgh and Philly. It was great to meet all of you, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year! Cannon: Beginnings, one of Aspen's 2004 convention books, is a lead in to the mini-series set to debut in early 2005. First unveiled at the Pittsburgh ComiCon, Cannon: Beginnings will be available throughout the summer at all of Aspen's upcoming convention appearances. The Soulfire #0 Wizard World East edition was released this past weekend, limited to a total of only 2500 copies, we blew through all of the copies we brought to the show, saving just a few for AspenStore.com, San Diego Comicon and Wizard World Chicago (where Soulfire #1 will premiere). Plus, the regular edition of Soulfire #0 was released this week to comic book stores everywhere!

Not only was Soulfire #0 released this week, but four other Michael Turner books where released, for a total of five different Michael Turner products available in a single week! DC Comics released Flash #210, the Superman #205 Turner cover, and a 3rd printing of Superman/Batman #8 (featuring an all-new cover). Plus, the latest issue of Wizard (#153) sports an all-new Michael Turner Identity Crisis cover. The new comic wall in comic book stores around the world are filled with Michael Turner. All until they sell-out that is!

We have seven weeks off between now and San Diego, but, there’s a lot of work ahead for all of us. However, Michael and Aspen have an in-store signing before San Diego in Phoenix, Arizona, so be sure and stop by if you are in the area. It’s on Saturday, June 12th at Samurai Comics, so make sure to call Samurai (602-265-8886) or check the Aspen web site for more info! In-house, we’ll be completing four new books for release before San Diego. From Aspen Comics, we have Fathom: Dawn of War #0 drawn by Talent Caldwell, and Fathom: Cannon Hawke #0 by Koi Turnbull. Both of these great zero issues will have convention exclusive covers that will be on sale at the cons and on the web site! Then, from DC Comics we have Superman/Batman #11 & 12, plus a few other covers on Flash #211 and the eagerly anticipated Identity Crisis #1!

After we recover from San Diego, we have less than two weeks to head out to Chicago for the latest Wizard World convention and the release of Soulfire #1. We have been building up the release of Soulfire #1 since early 2003, and it will definitely be worth the wait. Also, as August sees the launch of Soulfire #1, at that same time, we are ending our run on Superman/Batman with issue #13. That issue features two covers to wrap it all up, so to speak. We’re going out with a bang, without missing a beat, and we plan on blowing away all your expectations!
